What is Supartz

Supartz Injections

Supartz, a solution of sodium hyaluronate, is one of the hyaluronates used in viscosupplementation. It is injected directly into the knee joint to restore the cushioning and lubricating properties of the synovial fluid

Supartz is available in single-use, prefilled syringes with 2.5 mL of medication per syringe. It is often given to patients who don’t respond to other treatments such as acetaminophen, exercise, or physical therapy.

After removing the synovial fluid currently in your knee, your doctor will inject Supartz injection directly into the knee joint space. Most patients report little to no discomfort during the injection process, but some doctors may recommend the use of a local anesthetic when injecting Supartz FX.

How long does Supartz last

It can last from 9-12 months

The risk of the injections is very low and thus patients are often willing to try. It is not a cure and when there is a response.
